Everyone who visits our hotel immediately feels at home. And that’s very important to us. A smile here, a little extra there. We live what we love: friendliness. Each day is filled with new experiences and acquaintances and offers us the chance to continue improving our service.

Our staff of 35 come from a variety of backgrounds and bring with them a wide range of experience. They attach great importance to professional service, personal dedication and productive collaboration.

Tried and true
Our hotel has been here on Sunnegga since 1985, nestled in the Valais mountain landscape. The National Zermatt was founded by Johann Julen and remains a family-run hotel today. With Anna Metry (Julen), director of the Hotel National, is a granddaughter who has taken over the hotel.

We look back on our more than 30 years of history with a touch of nostalgia. Though a lot has happened, one thing remains unchanged: the desire to offer our guests a unique experience at our hotel.

The family

Here we introduce you to some of the friendly faces you’ll meet at our hotel.

Anna Metry – Management

Our General Manager, she is from Zermatt, put the happiness of our guests above all else.
She believe that the friendly and familiar atmosphere is the winning element in the National.

Raphael Balthasar – Hotel Manager

Originally from Germany, he feels in his heart like a true Swiss. After working in Luxemburg, New Zealand, Gstaad and recently Bellwald, he has finally returned to his love Zermatt.

Bastien Binggeli – Restaurant Manager

Our returnee, the man from Lower Valais, was already with us in 2016 for his internship at the hotel. Bastien leads the service team and is a host with heart and soul, he also loves to introduce guests to the wines from his canton.

Susana Da Conceicao Basto – Housekeeping

Our Portuguese housekeeper is a joy to have around. Always ready with a smile, Susana looks after the rooms and makes sure the hotel is in impeccable condition.

Anna Chernysheva – Chef de Cuisine

Anna, who is always in a good mood, has recently took over the kitchen. In her “first life” she worked as a lawyer until she found her love for cooking. She has been with us in the kitchen since spring 2021.

Alexis Bernet – Front Office Manager

As one of our returning pearls, he has been loyal to the National, overall, since 2018. He adores the mountains and the Valais, and is a most passionate young hotelier.
